Before the Appraisal
Suggestions for the Client
In order to expedite your upcoming appraisal, please consider the following suggestions:
- Decide which items you want to have appraised.
- Ensure that items located in the attic, basement and closets are open for view.
- Unpack items that are in drawers, trunks or boxes.
- Group things of like category together such as flatware, silver and dinnerware.
- Gather together any receipts, sales slips or earlier appraisals and place them near the appropriate items.
- Gather any historical information or family history that relates to the items being appraised.
- Furniture may need to be pulled away from the wall to inspect the back. Therefore, be prepared to remove any breakable items which may be damaged in the process. Please allow for an unobstructed view of large pieces of furniture.
- If a vehicle is to be appraised, please have it and its registration available for my inspection.
- For estate appraisals, please provide the date of death. If there is a will, please ensure that all items specifically bequeathed in the will are available for inspection.
The above are only suggestions. If you don't have time or are unable to do the above preparations prior to my arrival, don't worry -- I'll manage.
The appraisal will be done room-by-room. We'll begin in the corner of each room and go around in a clockwise fashion. If applicable, attics will be done first while it is cool. Basements, garages and outbuildings will be last. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
